Our Vision for Fisher Creek Neighborhood
The recently formed Austin Conservancy Group LLC is pleased to share our evolving plans for a conservation development, the Fisher Creek Neighborhood, located on our family farm of about 70 acres on the west edge of Janesville in south central Wisconsin. The first phase of the project involves the southwest corner of the farm, Conservancy Ridge, which has five beautiful lots now for sale, all located on a quiet cul-de-sac and edged by a wooded area along the west side of Fisher Creek. In future phases, the larger acreage of the farm on the east side of Fisher Creek will be developed for affordable residences, prairie meadows, play areas, community gardens and a vibrant neighborhood center with light commercial enterprises and other community services.
To accomplish our goal of creating a diverse, beautiful, walkable neighborhood, we plan to use the conservation development concept. Conservation developments, sometimes called cluster developments, are characterized by common open spaces and clustered, compact lots. This type of design is very appealing to homeowners who want easy access to open natural spaces both for the views and for interacting with the natural environment. This type of development also does much to protect and conserve natural resources while offering affordable housing.
We will encourage high quality and environmentally-friendly building practices, with the structures being designed, sited and constructed to be efficient and cost-effective in their use of materials, energy and water. We will also encourage homes and buildings with small footprints in order to minimize their impact on the land.
The City of Janesville is very encouraging and supportive of our forward-looking plans. They will include the area immediately along Fisher Creek as part of the city greenbelt system, and their future plans include extending a multi-use trail from Rockport Park on the south through the Fisher Creek greenbelt, with connections to adjoining neighborhoods, a future elementary school, and downtown Janesville.
